Mardella Sunshine Lowry, an artist whose areas are bead and leatherwork, quilting, soapstone carving, and storytelling, was the only Native American among 152 artists accepted for Pennsylvania's Artists in Education program.  Raised in Robeson County, she moved to Philadelphia, became involved in United American Indians of Delaware Valley, and began her teaching and art career.
