Notes that one issue facing the Lumbee as well as other tribes is that non-Natives want to learn about Lumbee culture. Non-Native researchers have been helpful to tribes in that they have recorded information that might have otherwise vanished; for example, contemporary Lumbee artists are looking at archaeological and early historical records of the Robeson County area for inspiration in their artworks. A drawback could be that the contact with, and influence of, non-Natives might change or disturb the culture of Natives. In fact, some tribes do not allow non-Natives to view their ceremonies and festivals.
