Gene Locklear is discussed briefly, along with sports artists Lon Keller, Vincent Scilla, Daniel Moore, and Peter Max. The article includes one illustration of Locklear's work.

Locklear, unlike the other artists discussed, played a major league sport (baseball) before beginning his art career. He has painted football, baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, hockey, and Olympic sports. He initially painted only by commission for professional athletes and private collectors. He has been the official artist for the National Football League and for Major League Baseball.
