JENK034. Locklear, Mark. “‘SATW!’ gets new leadership.” Robesonian March 22, 2005.

Publication type: Newspaper article

This article announces that leadership for the outdoor drama Strike at the Wind! has been assumed by a new organization, Carolina Arts Network. In conjunction with this change, playwright Randolph Umberger and music composer Willie French Lowery signed over the rights to their work on the play to this organization. The change is supported by members of Robeson Historical Drama, which operated the play for twenty-five years.

Carolina Arts Network plans to apply for funding through federal grants or loans to give the play a bigger budget for costumes, actor training, actor salaries, and production support. The group also wants to market the drama beyond the local region and get drama students at UNC-Pembroke and other colleges involved.

The play has not been performed since 2003. Carolina Arts Network plans to reopen it in 2006.

The phone number for Carolina Arts Network is 910-521-0835. Strike at the Wind's web site, www.strikeatthewind.com, will launch a new design in a few weeks.
