WOOD002. Woods, J. Cedric. Tears of our mother. Red Ink; a Native American student publication 3.1 (Spring 1994): 10-11. Publication type: Magazine article Note: Red Ink is published by students and faculty at the University of Arizona's American Indian Graduate Center. Woods, Lumbee, was a member of the Red Ink editorial board at the time this issue was published. This poem contrasts Mother Earth as Native Americans knew her before European contact with Mother Earth now, deploring the environmental pollution, skyscrapers, asphalt, and human greed and vanity. Mother Earth considers Native Americans her caretakers; she asks them to teach the strangers who commit these actsthat she is dying, and if I die, then the people die also.Note: Author is Lumbee.
