Publication type: Journal article

Short story with a main character, Lamar Locklear, who is part
Lumbee. The story is a bittersweet account of two couples who are
long-time neighbors, friends, and business partners; their son and
daughter's love relationship; a business deal turned unsavory; and
a tragic drowning. Phillips makes subtle, creative use of
the Hatteras/Lost Colony motif.
