This poem describes an April morning when the
author had returned
to Pembroke—the delicate, fragile light, and the discovery
of a
sparrow's nest and eggs in a flower pot on the porch.
The sparrow's nest and eggs, like the morning light and
like children,
are a simple but delicate gift, ours to give and receive.
