Discusses the American Indian Literature and Writers' Conference, designed to give Native American high school and college students in North Carolina an opportunity to discuss their oral and literary traditions and write works of their own which explores their native identity.  Donald Wire of Alexander Community College, the North Carolina Writers Network, and the North Carolina Humanities Council were all instrumental in bringing about the conference, which has been held three times.
