Brief mention. This memoir about McLaurin's boyhood in North Carolina in the 1950s and 1960s includes an incident in which the author and his African American friend LJ encounter a Croatan well driller and his two young sons. What follows is an incident of humiliation based on race discrimination.
About the author:
McLaurin, a former Peace Corps volunteer and Marine, was born near Fayetteville, North Carolina and was, at the time of this writing, teaching English at North Carolina State University.
