Paul Van Zandt created a life-size bronze statue of UNC-Pembroke's mascot, the red-tailed hawk.  The statue rests on a granite pedestal nine feet tall.  The hawk is 22 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds, and has a 57-inch wingspan.  It is displayed in front of the James B. Chavis University Center.
