Publication type: Newspaper article

On December 11, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools voted to remove Robeson Community College (RCC) from probation and reaccredit the school for ten years. RCC was placed on probation a year ago, mainly because SACS felt the Board of Trustees was making decisions that should have been handled by the college president. SACS gave RCC a list of fourteen changes that needed to be implemented by September, 2001.

SACS was satisfied with the school's progress when a visitation team reviewed the school in September. Another, less rigorous review will be done in five years.

The probation caused RCC to lose $470,000 in grant money for a pilot training program for dental hygienists and assistants. Loss of accreditation, however, would have lost the school all its federal and state funding (including scholarships); the school probably would have closed.
