Publication type: Newspaper article

In June 2001, Robeson County's unemployment rate was 12.3%--lower only than Yancey County's 15% and more than twice the state average of 5.1%. Additional plant closings contributed to the high rate. In the previous two months, the closing of Converse, Alamac Knit Fabrics, and others left over 2,000 workers without jobs.
