Reviews several incidents of violence in Robeson County between
1986 and early 1988 that confirmed for many residents their
impressions of corruption and oppression of minorities  in the
criminal justice system. Well-written overviews of the shooting
of Jimmy Earl Cummings by sheriff's deputy Kevin Stone; the
Robesonian hostage-taking; the death of Billy McKellan in the
Robeson County jail; the murder of Lumbee attorney and Superior
Court judge candidate Julian Pierce; and the roles of Joy Johnson
and Mac Legerton.
