Holden used two dozen detectives in an attempt to stop the Ku Klux Klan. See pp. 467-71 on efforts of detectives Lewis H. Mowers, George W. Tillou, and Cyrus S. Reno to deal with the Lowry Band and with Ku Klux Klansman Ash DeVane.
