A radio mention of the Lowry Gang made the author, formerly North Carolina Adjutant General, decide to write a more accurate account. Gorman and his troops, commissioned by the state’s governor, tried to capture the gang in 1870-71. The paper is mentioned in Farris (entry 1099) and Evans (entry 1118). Evans dates it at 20 years after the demise of the gang.
