As a general rule, the tapes and transcripts must be used on site. Contact Mrs. Roberta Y. Peacock, Oral History Program Office Manager, by e-mail (Roberta.Peacock@clas.ufl.edu) with specific questions. Ms. Peacock says that the program will consider allowing purchases of transcripts on a one-on-one basis. The program very rarely allows purchase of copies of the audiotapes, unless the requestor is a family member of the interviewee.

Access for people in or near Pembroke, North Carolina: UNC-Pembroke's Native American Resource Center has copies of the interviews conducted by Adolph Dial. These interviews were done with over 70 people and reside on a set of 35 CDs. The set is called “The Adolph Dial Tapes” and was donated by Mary Doris Dial-Caple, Dr. Dial's daughter.  In addition, the Lumbee River Basin Fund has made copies of all the tapes. They will soon be available for use at both the Indian Eduation Resource Center and the Native American Rsource Center.  A database is being created which will list each tape and give pertinent information about it.  The database will also include information on other Lumbee individuals which is availalbe at other institutions.  Contact Bruce Barton (Indian Education Resource Center) or Stanley Knick (Native American Resource Center) for more information.

This annotation updates the annotation in The Lumbee Indians: an annotated bibliography (1994), item 1044. The table below lists the approximately 266 interviews with Lumbee Indians (or others knowledgeable about them) between 1973 and 1975.
