Scheirbeck received a doctorate from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1980; her dissertation related to public policy and education of American Indians. She chaired the Indian Education Task Force of the American Indian Policy Review Commission. As of this writing she worked with the Save the Children Federation in Westport, C.T.. She has written several works on Indian education. She has received an Outstanding Lumbee Award.
