Brief profile of Freda Porter-Locklear, Lumbee, who received a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Duke University in 1991. Since then she has taught at UNC-Pembroke (1991-1994) and UNC-Chapel Hill (1994-1996). She founded UNC-Pembroke's chapter of AISES (American Indian Science and Engineering Society). Her research interest has been the application of mathematical models to the study of groundwater, especially in Native American communities.
