Category: 26. Military service USMI001. U. S. Military Collection. Ancestry.com Publication type: Online database Access: http://www.ancestry.com This collection contains over 90 million names found in over 700 print titles and databases. It covers every major war from the Revolutionary War through the Vietnam War. Military records from all fifty states are included. Sources include veterans' grave sites, pension records, enlistment records, muster rolls, and draft registration. Ancestry.com has worked with federal and state government offices to incorporate their data into this collection and has also digitized many print records that were not previously available electronically. In some cases the work done by Ancestry.com involved mainly optical character recognition; in other cases, handwritten records were transcribed. The search form allows entry of: first and middle name; last name; birth year; birth country; death year; death country; war; and keywords. Once a search is entered (for example, for the surname Locklear and Civil War), another search form appears that allows further options. A search for Locklear and Civil War can be limited by Regiment State/Origin to North Carolina; can be limited to Union or Confederacy; and can be limited to Exact Match. All search forms have a Keyword(s) blank. Some search results include an option to view a PDF file of the original document. Additional subjects discussed in this work: Genealogy | Revolutionary War | Civil War | World War I | World War II | Korean War | Vietnam War This page was updated on June 8, 2007 3:29 PM |
