CUMM001. Cummings, Delano. Moon Dash Warrior: the story of an American Indian in Vietnam, a marine from the land of the Lumbee. Livermore, ME: Signal Tree Publications, 1998. 266p.
Publication type: Book
Cummings, a Lumbee who attended Magnolia High School, was from a rural family. His father was a farmer and Sunday School teacher. He himself experienced corn and tobacco farming and hunting. He knew segregation in the schools, movie theaters, and churches of Robeson County in the early 1960's. His Robeson County upbringing and pride in his Indianness are reflected at several points in the narrative of his experiences during three tours of duty and some 35 recon patrols in Vietnam, 1965 through 1971.
