North Carolina's State Board of Education debated a resolution recommended to it by the State Advisory Council on Indian Education. The resolution would urge the state's twenty high schools with Indian mascots to “educate themselves on the educational, curricular and psychological effects” of the mascots. The resolution wouldn't ban the mascots, however.

Louise Maynor, a member of the council and an English professor at North Carolina Central University, discussed the motion with the Board. The State Board of Education will most likely vote on the resolution next month.
