Brief article. This news report from Wilmington, several days earlier, announces that several days earlier, Sheriff Lewis and his deputies quelled an incipient race riot at the railroad station in the small town of Buie [spelling? the text is unclear here]. According to the article, " Bad feeling is said to have existed between negroes and Croatan Indians living in this community and . . . negroes congregated to make a demonstration towards the Indians when they were ordered off by the whites." The text that follows is unclear, but there is mention of a Patterson who was shot and three white men who received flesh wounds.
