Brief biographical sketch of Arlinda Locklear, Lumbee attorney and the first Native American woman to argue a case before the U.S. Supreme Court.  As a law school student, she won the 1975-76 Moot Court Competition sponsored by the New York City Bar Association.  After eleven years as a attorney with the Native American Rights Fund, she became a tribal attorney for the Lumbee and also started a private practice in Jefferson, Maryland, specializing in federal Indian law.  She has twice testified before Congress on federal recognition issues.  She received an honorary doctorate in 1990 from the State University of New York.
