Publication type: Newspaper article

The Lumbee Tribal Council approved a motion to apply for a HUD housing grant that would provide $8.592 million for housing for people with low incomes. Wayne Stogner, a Rockingham architect who is working with the Tribal Council on the grant, believes chances of receiving it are excellent. Notification should come in late July. There would be a chance of receiving another $3 million next year, due to increases in the number of tribal members revealed by results of the 2000 Census. The grant stems from the Native American Housing and Self-Determination Act of 1996.
