Publication type:  Newspaper article

The Lumbee Tribal Council voted to establish the Lumbee Nation Development
Corporation, a for-profit business which the council hopes will compete
successfully for government set-asides for tribally-owned businesses.  The
council also believes this corporation will be aided by Robeson County's
designation as a HUB (Historically Underutilized Business) Zone.  At the June
Tribal Council meeting, the council will begin determining what types of
businesses the new corporation will target.  One idea under consideration is a
small construction company which acts as a protege of a larger construction
             company.
