Publication type: Press release

Dennis Lowery, a Charlotte entrepreneur and 1964 graduate of Pembroke State College, pledged $100,000 over the next four years to UNC-Pembroke for scholarships. He established the Zeb Lowery Scholarship Fund in honor of his father, who was a trustee of the university for 34 years. He intends the scholarship to support students with leadership potential but average or above average grades who do not qualify for other financial aid. Lowery, in 1975, founded and was CEO of Continental Industrial Chemicals, later named the Continental Group. That company was thought to be the nation's largest Native American-owned private company. As of this writing, Lowery was head of Continental Chemicals LLC, a chemical broker operating in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Central and South America.
