Glenn Maynor, 48, has just been elected as the county's first Native American sheriff. A Democrat, he defeated Republican candidate James Sanderson 57% to 43%. The incumbent, Hubert Stone, is retiring after 16 years as Sheriff. Maynor directed the county's housing authority for 18 years and has served on Lumberton's City Council. Maynor plans to increase the size of Robeson County's drug task force and will work hard to include all ethnic groups and points of view in his administration.
