Robeson County sheriff's deputy James Hunt was voted National Deputy Sheriff of the Year, from a field of 2,500 nominees, by the National Sheriff's Association. The article describes an incident which occurred on September 23, 1998, in which Hunt chased and then entered a stolen car and was shot in the chest by its driver. Hunt received his award, after delivering a speech to an audience of 400, in Kansas City.
