the Robeson Trail (column). Carolina Indian Voice 31 December
1998:3.
Publication type: Newspaper article
In this installment of Knick's series on the
context of the Lumbee, the topic is intertribal rivalries. Knick gives
examples of catalysts which can spark rivalries (claims to land or hunting
rights; political struggles; economic issues; European-inspired wars) and
discusses ways tribes handle the rivalries. Examples of Lumbee intertribal
rivalries include disputes with the Cherokees and the Tuscarora.
