Under the second part of a five-year federal plan to help low-income Native Americans buy homes, renovate homes, and build apartments, over $7.3 million will be distributed through Lumbee Regional Development Association.  The Tribal Council of the Lumbee Tribe of Cheraw Indians is unhappy with the decision.  The Tribal Council wanted to money to be handled by the North Carolina Indian Housing Authority, which handled the Lumbees' first share of the money, $7.8 million.  Also disappointed is the Burnt Swamp Baptist Association, which favored letting the Indian Housing Authority handle the money.
