Leroy Freeman, 53, a LRDA Board member from Fairmont who was elected in March to a 5-year term on the Board, has been elected chairman after having attended only one meeting. A primary concern of Freeman's as Board chair is overseeing a smooth transition once a tribal election is held November 7 and a new governing body is established. Freeman expects that LRDA will maintain a vital organization for the tribe, but the millions of dollars of aid that LRDA has administered will then be handled by the new governing body. Freeman also wants LRDA to conduct more outreach, making its services more visible and accessible tribal members. He wants LRDA to hold public forums in various communities and has already held one in his own community of Fairmont. Freeman is vice president of Osterneck Industries in Lumberton.
