The state spending plan for 2000-2001, approved by the House of Representatives, includes a provision (sponsored by Rep. Ron Sutton) for $100,000 for the Lumbee Self-Determination Commission. The funding will, if approved, help the Commission prepare for the November 7 tribal election to establish a tribal government. To reach all tribal members eligible to vote, much work must be done finding members, wherever they may live; updating their addresses; and doing multiple mailings.
