This bill amends the Lumbee Recognition Act of June 7, 1957 (70 Stat. 254; see http://digital.library.okstate.edu/kappler/Vol6/html_files/v6p0733b.html) and adds, “Federal recognition is extended to the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina and its members.” It also adds, “The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina and its members shall be eligible for all services and benefits provided to Indians because of their status as members of a federally recognized tribe.” The third major addition is: “There are authorized to be appropriated such sums as are necessary to carry out this act.” The other major provisions of this bill are the same as those in U. S. Rep. McIntyre's bill, H. R. 65.
