The Lumbee Tribal Council announced that its housing program has awarded 11 contracts, totaling almost $135,000, for rehabilitation of houses in Robeson, Scotland, and Hoke counties. The program (which has $8 million to disperse) gives preference to applicants who are disabled or are 62 or older, and to Native American contractors. Rehabilitation is limited to $15,000 per home. The program received 1,281 applications and has approved 165 thus far.
