Discusses the fact that Lumbee girls are less affected by poor health and nutrition than Lumbee boys, since Lumbee girls have been shown to be more likely to grow to their potential inherited height than boys.  Knick's example compares the growth of Lumbee children who had a serious infection in early childhood.
