Brief mention. Reviews Women and heart disease: an atlas of racial and ethnic disparities in mortality, which contains 200 national and state maps (the latter including the first county-level maps available). The atlas was produced by West Virginia University and the Centers for Disease Control. The maps reflect studies of women 35 and older who were living in the United States between 1991 and 1995.

The review notes that the study found a heart disease death rate of 259 per 100,000 population among American Indian and Alaska Native women. A higher rate than this average was found among Lumbee women living in southeastern North Carolina.
