Publication type: Newspaper article

Brief description of this Native American congregation which meets as the St. Luke United Methodist Church on Shamrock Drive. The congregation, founded around 1994 by the Rev. Joel Locklear (formerly pastor of Branch Street United Methodist Church in Lumberton), has 22 members. Locklear notes that many of Charlotte's Native Americans are Lumbee, but few attend church because they prefer churches that are predominantly Lumbee. He and his congregation are looking for ways to reach more of Charlotte's Lumbee population and gain them as church members.
