The North Carolina Indian Cultural Center has inaugurated a new program, chaired by Janice Oxendine, called American Indian Mothers. The program “hopes to instill the substance that the members say is lacking in some of today's families, such as vision and knowledge.” Working with Robeson County Mental Health Center, the program will provide alcohol and drug counseling. The program will also work with issues such as child neglect, domestic violence, and sexually transmitted diseases.

The article mentions other programs of the North Carolina Indian Cultural Center, such as the singles program, 7th Generation Youth Society, free breakfast for the elderly and disabled, and Gathering of Eastern Indian Nations at Sunset (fall pow-wow).
