Lorna McNeill, a senior at UNC-Pembroke who was competing as Miss Topsail Island, bested 32 other candidates to become Miss North Carolina. She will receive $10,000 in scholarship money and $7,600 in fashion awards and other prizes. She will compete in the Miss America pageant in October.
