Brief profile of Lorna McNeill, the first Lumbee to win the Miss North Carolina pageant. She has been competing in pageants since the age of 15. The Miss America competition this October will be her last opportunity to win, since women are not allowed to compete for Miss America after age 24. She feels strongly that her win as Miss North Carolina is also a win for Lumbee people. The scholarship money from her win will allow her to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, a two-year program that prepares students for professional entertainment careers.
