349. Munger, Guy.  “An Indian whose heart is filled with music.”  News and Observer (Raleigh, NC) 11 Nov. 1979: Sec. 4 p. 3.

Willie French Lowery, Tar Heel of the Week, wrote the score for Strike at the Wind!  He received an award from the North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs for his album, Proud to Be a Lumbee (see entry 338).  He is distantly related to Henry Berry Lowry.  See Robesonian 14 Oct. 1992: C1 and 2 Sept. 1993: 3B on Lowery’s recording studio, Soundsation, focusing on local gospel music.
